Notes From The Console – April 2017

Only six days to go before the Doctor makes his way onto our TV screens once again, and personally I am very excited.

From the sound of things, Series 10 – which, sadly, is Peter Capaldi’s last – will offer a quality of storytelling that frankly should have been there for him in Series’ 8 and 9 (Heaven Sent from Series 9 notwithstanding). Matt Lucas is re-appearing as Nardole. John Simm is returning as The Master, as is Michelle Gomez as Missy, which promises deliriously evil shenanigans. Bill Potts, played by the gorgeous and talented newcomer Pearl Mackie, is the series’ first openly gay companion (Captain Jack Harkness’ omnisexuality notwithstanding). And David Suchet, whose portrayal of Agatha Christie’s Belgian detective Hercule Poirot should really be considered the gold standard (sorry, not sorry, fans of Peter Ustinov), is showing up in Episode 4 as The Landlord.

Here is the most recent trailer for Series 10:

Nardole, Bill, with us, to the TARDIS!

Convention Time is also now upon us and you will find Ottawa TARDIS and her friends K-9 Grey Brother and Dalek Soufflé making their April appearance in Cornwall at CAPE on April 22nd and 23rd. The month of May brings us to Ottawa ComicCon, where two of the current three Guests of Honour are Peter Capaldi and John Barrowman. And in July, two hours east to downtown Montréal for Montréal ComicCon, where – and I doubt there is anything much that can top this for awesome – Guest of Honour David Tennant will make his first Canadian convention appearance.

This blogger needs a side hustle, clearly, for all the photo ops and autographs the kids and I want to get.

What are you most looking forward to from the Who-niverse this spring and summer?
